1st Annual Haiku Ramble

Presented by the Gila River Indian Community Tribal Education K-12 Program in cooperation with the Wellness Center.

How it works: Compose your original Haiku poem using the theme, Jeved S-hiosim (Blooming Earth/Land). Then select the link below to submit your work by completing the easy online entry form, no later than 5:00 PM on April 30, 2023.

What is Haiku?

Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry. A Haiku poem uses just a few words to capture a moment and create a picture in the reader's mind.

A typical Haiku poem follows a 5-7-5 structure. The entire poem consists of 3 lines with seventeen syllables in total. The first line features five syllables, the second seven, and the third line features five syllables. The traditional focus of a Haiku poem is nature.

Categories:
Elementary - Grades K-5
Middle School - Grades 6-8
High School - Grades 9-12
College/Adult

Three winning entries from each category will remain on display for one year, along the Gila River Fitness Path for all to enjoy. 

Contest Rules:
• Your poem must be a 3 line Haiku
• Must Follow the 5-7-5 syllable structure
• Must adhere to contest theme
